General Motivation chose to use NEE AMC-B's because of:
- The modest system cost
- The control was easily integrated with their existing job generation software
- The control was easily integrated with existing brushless drives and motors
- They expected and achieved great machine performance increases without sacrificing finished part quality
NEE undertook all the tasks associated with retrofitting the router controllers. The old control system was removed and the
AMC-B fitted, system wiring was modified, the new system was configured and tested and test parts
were produced. During testing some limitations were identified with the current machine and improvements suggested. These were
implemented by General Motivation improving the machine performance and part quality.
General Motivation were impressed by:
- How easy the router retrofit was, it was accomplished, using the existing Pacific Scientific motor drives in 2 days, this
included training
- The very fast job download time, the machine can be running almost immediately the download is begun, jobs can be downloaded at any time
even when the machine is running a part program
- The high performance of the AMC-B controlled machine - on complex 3D jobs their machines are more than 5 times as
productive as it was with the PMAC control. The AMC-B accepts any HPGL (or GM code or ESSI) job file and operates the
machine at optimal speed due to the 'time' based look ahead, and to unique
vector intersection speed calculations.
- The quality of parts produced
- How easy the system is to use, functions can be rapidly accessed by simply labeled keys, pressure sensitive machine jog keys and a pulse
wheel make the machine fast and easy to precisely position to 0.0001 inches
