High productivity, high accuracy, 3 dimensional modelling prosthetics machine
AMC4 based motion control systems are fitted to orthotic modelling and prosthetics machines.
These manufacture precise models using data generated within seconds using a revolutionary computer based synchronised
digital scanning system. The models are then used to make a wide range of custom prosthetic and orthotic components.

The data, once generated, is transferred at high speed to a high performance three dimensional
carving machine controlled by an AMC4. The machine controller is controlled
from a PC via simple to use custom control panels generated using WinAMC.
NEE engineers worked closely with the machine manufacturers during the development phase to
provide the best solution possible.
The prosthetics machine carver is typically run by operators with little or no experience of CNC so the
system needed to be simple to operate.
The factors weighed by the prosthetics machine builder in the choice of the machine controller were:
- how easy was it to integrate the controller into the machine
- how easy and fast is it to communicate data defining the model from a PC to the machine controller
- how fast does the machine produce a model
- how precise is the machined component - the more precise it is the less the manual finishing required
- how easy is the machine to operate in any country of the world
The advantages gained by using our AMC4 controller included:
- the AMC controller is stable and reliable
- WinAMC is simple to customise, controller custom operator interfaces are simple to generate by non PC programmers in any PC supported language
- Machine productivity is dramatically increased
- Model quality is excellent – typically no manual finishing is required
- The model is accurate to better than 0.01 inches (0.25mm)
- Operators do not require ‘machine tool’ experience to operate the machine
